The program at Alkebu-lan Village, called “Stop Horsing Around,” had its debut in the summer of 2022, with over a dozen kids signed up. It was inspired by the equine assisted therapy — an experimental therapy that some licensed providers use has been shown to help with mental health, such as reducing anxiety, depression and behavioral issues. Cesaire and Hogan taught the children how to first approach, feed, groom, and mount a horse in Detroit before eventually going to a stable about an hour way, where they had a chance to ride the horses.
